Palmeiras have extended Lucas Evangelista’s contract to the end of 2027. The midfielder is in the physical transition phase and is expected to return to action soon after a serious 2025 injury.
According to Nosso Palestra, the new deal was published in the CBF’s Boletim Informativo Diário on Thursday 29. He initially signed until the end of 2026 with an option of one extra season based on targets.
In early 2025, after selling Zé Rafael to Santos, Palmeiras sought a second midfielder to back up Richard Ríos, who was in fine form. Evangelista arrived to fill that role after failing initial tests, bringing determination to earn his place.
He quickly became popular within the squad and, following Richard Ríos’s move to Benfica, claimed a starting spot in midfield. Despite subsequent recruitment for the role, his performances kept him in the side even after Andreas Pereira joined from Fulham.
His standout display came against River Plate at Allianz Parque. On 28 September 2025, he suffered a rupture of the right hamstring tendon during a Campeonato Brasileiro match against Bahia, underwent surgery and missed the rest of the season, with recovery estimated at three to six months.
