According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras have identified Danilo as their only target this window and dream of bringing back their academy graduate, yet they see a deal as difficult.
Factors include the fees involved, Botafogo’s preference to sell to Europe and willingness to wait until the end of the window, and the player’s desire to settle his future quickly.
In talks with senior Palmeiras figures, Danilo indicated interest in returning. He still harbours ambitions to join a major European club.
There is a preliminary understanding between Palmeiras and the player’s representatives, but an agreement with Botafogo remains some way off.
Despite ongoing financial issues, Botafogo’s new management are restructuring. With transfer bans lifted, the club do not require emergency sales to fund signings.
Palmeiras will keep negotiating with Botafogo and Danilo, though the internal mood at the club is not optimistic.
The football department hope no significant European side makes an offer that tempts the midfielder. His camp want clarity this week.
Botafogo are in no rush, with the window open until 11 September, and plan to reintegrate Danilo for upcoming Campeonato Brasileiro matches.
The Rio club expect the academy graduate to report next week to begin training after the World Cup.
