Pape Gueye has been voted La Liga’s best African player after Villarreal finished third this season, securing Champions League qualification.
According to L'Équipe, the Senegal midfielder topped the vote ahead of Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams and his Villarreal team-mate Nicolas Pepe.

It is his second season at Villarreal, and the midfielder is 27.
Gueye is due to face France at the World Cup on 16 June at 21:00.
His campaign also included victory in the Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco, where he scored the winner, although the title has for now been withdrawn by the authorities.
