Villarreal B will start their promotion play-off to Segunda División without top scorer Albert García. The striker is suspended for Sunday’s first leg against Zamora CF at the Mini Estadi, 20.30.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, García was shown a straight red in the 78th minute for a heavy challenge on Atlético Sanluqueño’s goalkeeper last Sunday. The club do not intend to appeal, as television images are deemed clear.

The Catalan forward leads the B team’s scoring and offers pace and work-rate across the pitch. He has eight goals and two assists in 35 appearances, totalling 2,044 minutes, and had earned the starting role up front.

There is hope the suspension will be limited to one match, which would allow him to feature in the return at Ruta de la Plata next weekend.

Head coach David Albelda must choose a replacement for the centre forward berth. Ayman Arguigues and Ettienne Eto’o are the options, with Arguigues likely to lead the line on Sunday. He offers a similar profile to García.
