Paulo Dybala has undergone surgery on his left knee in Rome.

The Argentina forward, 32, was injured during the 1-1 draw with AC Milan on 25 January and had only just rejoined the Roma squad. Gazzetta reports the medical team had proposed surgery for about six weeks, and that he agreed to it after fresh ultrasounds and MRI scans this week.

He did not feature in the 3-3 draw with Juventus last Sunday but trained at the start of the week.

He is reported to have sustained a complete longitudinal tear of the lateral meniscus, and he is expected to be sidelined for 45 days.

That timeline would rule him out of seven Serie A matches and the two-legged Europa League last-16 tie against Bologna. Roma are fourth in Serie A, 16 points behind leaders Inter and two behind third-placed Napoli, and face Genoa on Sunday at 18:00 in matchweek 28.
