FC Barcelona lifted another La Liga trophy last night, and this latest triumph was particularly special as it came after a 2-0 win against their bitter rivals, Real Madrid, in front of their own fans at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Although he did not have a big part to play in the win last night, the goalkeeper Joan Garcia deserves a lot of credit for helping the Blaugrana team win the league title in his first season at the club. Betting on him clearly proved to be the right choice for the Catalans.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Spanish goalie also talked to the media after the match, and among other things, also revealed that winning the league title was the intention of the team from the very start of the season:

“The team was very clear about the game plan from the beginning. We knew we had to come out from the very start with intensity and press hard. We wanted it to be obvious who really wanted to win the league, and we did that. All of us would have signed up for this ending at the start of the season.”

The Spaniard was quite happy with the overall performance of his team in this game:

“I think we did well to control the match, and we could even have scored another goal or two. But overall, I’m very happy with the team, with how we played, and really delighted.”

Garcia also highlighted the good atmosphere in the Barcelona dressing room:

“I think there’s a very healthy dressing room, a very young one too, and I think that helps. I think we’re like a family, also thanks to the coach — we dedicate today’s victory to him because, as everyone knows, he’s had a very difficult day. The dressing room is fantastic, and that’s the key to continuing to win titles and achieve great things here.”

The goalie also predicted years of success for the team to come:

“I think we really have to appreciate what this team is achieving. It’s true that we always want to win more, but people don’t realize the kind of team this is, how young it is, and the future it has. I truly believe it has the brightest future in Europe. So we have to trust in this project, keep working hard, keep improving, keep gaining experience, and I’m sure very successful years will come.”

Garcia also opened up on his adaptation at the Blaugrana club:

“Good, very good. Honestly, from the beginning, I’ve felt very comfortable, trying to contribute everything I could and adapt as quickly as possible to the style of play, the team, and my new teammates. And the truth is that they made it very easy for me. Both the staff and the players, and the fans as well, made it easy. I’ve felt very comfortable, and I’m very happy to win my first league title.”

When asked about the dressing room problems in Real Madrid, the Barcelona shot-stopper did not seem concerned with the topic:

“We’re focused on football, which is what we should be focused on… Well, these are things that can happen in a dressing room… In the end, I think it also doesn’t help when things aren’t going the way you want. But these are things that can happen. I don’t think we should give it too much importance. We have to focus on ourselves, enjoy this moment, and celebrate the league title, because what we’ve achieved is very important.”

Undoubtedly, this was a great first season with Barcelona for Joan Garcia, and with three matches remaining, he would now be aiming to end the season with the Zamora Trophy in his hands.
