Following Arsenal’s win over Burnley and Manchester City’s win over Bournemouth at the weekend, the Gunners are actually further clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Bournemouth began the weekend as the closest of Arsenal’s competitors, but it would have been foolish to believe City weren’t in the race.

They’re certainly involved now, six points behind Mikel Arteta’s side and a point clear of reigning champions Liverpool. Yet they need Arsenal to give them an opening to catch up, and Pep Guardiola joked on Sunday that he’s still waiting for the team to even concede a single goal.

“Well hopefully Arsenal can concede one goal one day, right?” Guardiola joked. “It’s not easy for them.

“But I said, the energy we didn’t have (before), we have. I had the feeling since the World Cup that we were in that moment. But it’s just 10 games, still 28 to play, many, many things are going to happen, important to be close and feel that the team is better and better.”

The last time Arsenal did concede a goal in any competition was away to Newcastle United on September 28th.

Nick Woltemade’s 33rd-minute header has been followed by 687 minutes of various teams failing to add to the three goals scored against the Gunners in 2025/26. That’s almost 11-and-a-half hours without the Arsenal net bulging.

If Arsenal can keep picking up clean sheets like that for the remainder of the season, they’ll certainly be in a great position to win the league. It only takes one goal for the Gunners to earn all three points at the moment, with anything more than that just a nice bonus.
