Manchester United claimed first win at Anfield for eight years after beating Liverpool 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Last time the Red Devils won at Anfield was in January 2016 under Louis van Gaal with the only goal coming from then captain Wayne Rooney.

Here are how Manchester United players rated at Anfield.

Starting XI

Senne Lammens: 7

The goalkeeper made a fantastic save with his feet to stop Alexander Isak towards the end of the first half, and the Belgian wasn’t fazed by the atmosphere at Anfield.

He was grateful for the woodwork on three occasions though, and could’ve been more alert to the Federico Chiesa cross which resulted in Liverpool’s goal.

Matthijs de Ligt: 6

A solid performance from the right centre half with five clearances made.

He could have done better to prevent Gakpo’s equaliser and was saved by the post in the first half.

Harry Maguire: 9

He was Manchester United’s star player today and proved why he deserved to be in the starting 11.

He was clinical in the box, notching United’s winner right at the end and was one of the key players in the air. It was a deserved winning goal.

Luke Shaw: 7

Another solid if unspectacular performance from a member of United’s back three.

Shaw stopped some of Liverpool’s key attackers including Isak and was there in crucial moments.

Amad: 7

He provided a fair few chances for United, he picked up an assist to Bryan Mbeumo.

If anything, he could have had another assist had Bruno Fernandes not hit the post.

That said, he did pick up a yellow card for challenge on Gapko and was dispossessed on four occasions, but Amad still played an important role in United’s victory.

Casemiro: 7

After a busy international break with Brazil, Casemiro showed his importance to this United side despite being booked for a challenge.

Bruno Fernades: 8

Had a brilliant chance to make it 2-0 after his shot at goal hit the post 24 minutes into the match.

Fernandes also took a fantastic, controlled corner which led to Maguire heading it into the back post and demonstrated his ability to drop deeper and facilitate two number 10s in front of him.

Diogo Dalot: 6

Despite being one of the weaker performances from United’s starting line-up, Dalot still showed enough to justify his starting spot.

Bryan Mbeumo: 8

It was his goal just 63 seconds into the match which set the tone for everything to come.

He played excellently with purpose and attacked with determination, unafraid of taking on defenders.

This felt like a landmark match in his Manchester United career.

Matheus Cunha: 6

A promising return from injury which showed tremendous work ethic even if his performance on the ball was a little unremarkable.

Mason Mount: 6

As is often the case, Mount’s crowning achievement was what he did off the ball, working tirelessly to support his teammates before he was substituted in the 61st minute.

Substitutes

Manuel Ugarte: 5

Didn’t find himself too involved in terms of on-the-ball activities, but still played his part in ensuring United found their way to three points.

Patrick Dorgu: 6

A necessary change introduced while United were a goal to the good.

With three tackles and two clearances to his name in a cameo which lasted just over half an hour, Dorgu left his mark without entirely going above and beyond.

Benjamin Šeško: 6

Despite not adding another goal to his tally, he did show his value as a focal point and contributed towards the attacking efforts once introduced.

Leny Yoro: 5

Came on as a late sub.

Kobbie Mainoo: 5
