AC Milan are set to break their transfer record to sign Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain, according to widespread reports on Friday evening.
Outlets in Portugal, including Maisfutebol, as well as other sources such as The Athletic and renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, clam a deal has been struck between Milan and the European champions ahead of Ramos signing a five-year contract at San Siro.
The fee is reported to be around €74m plus add-ons, which eclipses Milan’s previous record outlay of almost €50 paid for another Portuguese, Rafael Leão, from Lille in 2019. The move for Ramos comes as Ruben Amorim makes plans for his first season in charge of Milan, which has seen a top striker essential to his vision.
Ramos is thought to be ready for a change after three seasons in Paris, during which he has been a reliable goalscorer but struggled to be more than a bit-part player under Luis Enrique. Ramos has scored a highly respectable 45 goals from 131 appearances for PSG, many of which came from the substitutes bench.
Indeed, Ramos’ minutes played at the Parc des Princes equated to approximately 59 full matches, making his 45 goals a consistent return. Such figures have clearly contributed to Amorim deciding the former Benfica man can spearhead his new look MIlan, who will be without Champions League football next season after finishing 5th in Serie A.
