Sunderland’s derby win at Newcastle has injected momentum into their run-in and, according to Sunderland Echo, leaves them 11th in the Premier League’s 10-game form table on 13 points.

After Anthony Gordon’s early strike, Regis Le Bris’ side levelled through Chemsdine Talbi before Brian Brobbey snatched a stoppage-time winner at St James Park. The result completed a league double and extended their unbeaten league run against Newcastle to 11, the longest by either club in this rivalry.

Across the last 10 league games, Manchester United lead on 23 points, Arsenal have 21 and Manchester City 19. Chelsea and Everton have 17, AFC Bournemouth 16, West Ham United 15. Liverpool and Brighton and Hove Albion are on 14, Fulham, Sunderland and Brentford 13. Crystal Palace have 12, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Aston Villa 11. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United are on 10, Burnley 7 and Tottenham Hotspur 3.

Le Bris called it a big achievement to win both derbies in the same year. He said Newcastle’s intensity and the crowd made for a tough first half, accepted the error for the opener, and praised his side’s response and second-half display.

The victory followed a narrow home loss to Brighton and Hove Albion and kept Sunderland in the mix for Europe. After the international break, they face struggling Tottenham Hotspur at home on Sunday, April 12, as several players return from duty.
