Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy last season with a team that was almost entirely assembled under Jurgen Klopp.

The summer transfer window that followed marked the start of a full squad rebuild for the Reds however, and the evolution at Anfield is well and truly underway.

Several key players were added in that window, and a deal that will bring Jeremy Jacquet to Merseyside ahead of next season was announced in the winter window too.

As is always the case in football, the influx of players will inevitably lead to some departures, and the race is starting to heat up for one of the Reds’ most iconic defenders.

Premier League rivals still pursuing Liverpool star

Andrew Robertson is into the final few months of his current deal at Liverpool, and rumours of an Anfield exit have been swirling for a while.

The vice-captain has been repeatedly linked with a move back to Scotland, with boyhood club Celtic considered the favourites for his signature north of the border.

An early departure almost materialised in January though, when Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur came knocking.

The 32-year-old seemed close to joining, but the move was never finalised, and Robertson will see out the remainder of the season with Liverpool.

According to a report from Football Insider, Spurs have not been deterred by their failure in the winter window and will once again try and persuade Robertson to join in the summer.

The London club will only make the move if they achieve Premier League survival this campaign, something which appears more difficult with every passing week.

The door isn’t closed to Robertson at Liverpool, and the report claims that the veteran full-back would be willing to continue at Anfield in a similar reduced role to the one he has had this season.

If Spurs can offer Robertson guaranteed regular first-team football it may be difficult to convince him to remain at Liverpool, but the decision does seem to lie with the iconic defender.
