Derby County host Southampton this Saturday at the Pride Park Stadium for round nine of the EFL Championship.
Derby County have picked up 7 points and currently lie in 20th position. Last time out, John Eustace's team drew 1-1 against Charlton Athletic (EFL Championship 2025/26).
Southampton have won 10 points to date and are placed in 14th position. Last time out, Will Still's team triumphed 1-2 against Sheffield United (EFL Championship 2025/26).
The last meeting between the two teams ended in a 2-2 draw.
Cory Hancock (The Rams Review Podcast): Derby picked up a point at home against Charlton last time out. The Rams remain at home and take on a recently relegated side in Southampton who are still finding their feet in the Championship.
Derby need to get three points. One win in eight league games does not make for great reading and with an international break coming up its a good time to get positive momentum. A win would do so much to lift the morale of the squad.
There are two spots of contention within the Derby first XI. Dion Sanderson has a knock and is touch-and-go for the match. If he is out, then Norwegian Sondre Langas would make his first appearance of the season. Langas was immense since joining in January but has been recovering from a knee injury. He recently played 90 minutes for the Derby U21's, so expect him to be included if Sanderson is unable to go.
Ebou Adams spot in the team has been a certainty for nearly 18 months, but since losing the captaincy earlier this season it is now no where near guaranteed. Adams was subbed off at half time by manager John Eustace. He was replaced by on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder David Ozoh. I would expect Ozoh to keep his place as Eustace is still looking to get a good tune out of the midfield.
Expect Patrick Agyemang to lead the line for Derby again. Carlton Morris will start but he should be slightly behind the forward and play as a hybrid 9/10. Agyemang has just been named in the USA squad for the upcoming internationals so this match and the subsequent two weeks will be big for him as he looks to solidify himself in the USA squad for the World Cup. He has looks lively (and a bit raw) in his appearances so far but his physical attributes ensure that he will be a handful for defenders.
