Sunderland’s loanees are scattered across Europe and the EFL, some chasing promotion, others hampered by injury as the run-in begins.
According to Sunderland Echo, a host of Black Cats are out on loan after the last two windows. Simon Adingra moved to Monaco in January, has three goals in 10 and played in both legs of their Champions League play-off with Paris Saint-Germain. Anthony Patterson joined Millwall in January, reunited with former Black Cats boss Alex Neil, has three clean sheets in seven and is first-choice as they chase promotion.
Dan Neil has made 10 appearances for Ipswich Town, and there has been speculation it could become permanent when his contract expires at season’s end. Jenson Seelt has 10 outings for Wolfsburg, but a knee injury and illness have curbed his impact over the last three months. Arthur Masuaku has two games for Lens, one in Ligue 1, and was shown a red card in the warm-up before their Coupe de France quarter-final at Lyon last month.
Timothee Pembele has seven outings for Le Havre after a January move and still has over a year left on his Sunderland deal. Leo Hjelde is rebuilding at Sheffield United, making five Championship appearances since January. Alan Browne is key for Middlesbrough, with 33 appearances, four goals and one assist for Kim Hellberg’s promotion chasers.
Aji Alese joined Portsmouth in January and has only one substitute outing after a serious groin injury in a 1-0 loss at Preston North End in February. Zak Johnson, who arrived in November, has 20 games for York City, scored in a 3-0 win at Wealdstone in February, and is hoping to help them into the EFL. Luis Semedo has two goals in 16 for Morierense, scoring in draws with Estoril and Nacional, and nine of his 18 league appearances have come from the bench.
Milan Aleksic, a January arrival at Cracovia, has supplied two assists in eight appearances. Niall Huggins’ season-long spell at Wycombe since August has brought 20 games, seven from the start. The 27-year-old Nazariy Rusyn joined Arka Gdynia late in the summer window in his second loan away from Wearside and has four goals in 21 outings.
