Caught in the storm of the dispute between Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé, Luis Campos admitted to having gone through a challenging period, marked by a complicated personal balancing act. Although he has been close to the player since his early days at Monaco, the Portuguese executive stated that he had to put the club’s interests above all else when the split became unavoidable.

In an interview with Marca, Campos made no attempt to hide from his tough decision.

“I’ve had a special relationship with Kylian since he was 14 or 15 years old. I won’t forget that, and I won’t hide it, but in this case, I tried to be as unemotional as possible, I tried to be as rational as possible,” he explained,

as PSG was ordered to pay 61 million euros to their former superstar.

The executive emphasized the importance of the collective during this tense episode.

“We couldn’t let the whole club pay for the Kylian affair,” he continued,

defending a stance that aligns with PSG’s current sporting and financial overhaul, now focused on a more balanced and sustainable project.
