PSG and Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the defender. Both clubs will look to position themselves to talk to the player if he doesn’t sign an extension before the January window.

Foot Mercato recently reported that Konaté has been offered to several elite European clubs—including PSG, Real Madrid, and Barcelona—suggesting a transfer could be on the cards once his contract nears its end.

Football Insider reports that Liverpool plan to resume contract talks with Ibrahima Konaté now that the summer transfer window is closed. The club has no intention of letting the defender leave on a free transfer and aims to reach an agreement before January.

Senior Football Insider correspondent Pete O’Rourke said Liverpool will restart discussions now that the summer window has ended, allowing the club to focus on finalizing terms.

“He still is highly thought of by Arne Slot,” O’Rourke told Football Insider. “Right now there’s nothing sort of concerning about his future. Obviously his contract situation is the main talking point on Anfield right now.

“Once the window closes, there’ll be further talks held with Konaté to see if he will sign a new contract or not before the January window. Otherwise that will be Liverpool’s last chance to cash in on him.”

Konaté currently earns £70,000 a week but has told Liverpool he wants £200,000 per week to sign a new contract, according to DaveOCKOP.com.

The Premier League champions are pushing for a deal focused mostly on performance-related bonuses, while Konaté is holding out for a higher guaranteed base salary.

Last month, journalist Abdellah Boulma reported that Liverpool are still negotiating a contract extension with Konaté. Although no deal is in place yet, the French defender is happy at the club and wants to stay.
