PSG have two world-class full-backs in Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes. However, the depth behind them is suspect at best, so if either one is out for a foreseeable time, the Parisians are in trouble.

Hakimi will be leaving at the end of the year to play for Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations. As a result, PSG will need to make do without a key player, and if they struggle to replace him for however long Morocco’s run in AFCON lasts, could the Ligue 1 side look for a backup in the January transfer window?

Over the summer, the capital didn’t look for depth. Nonetheless, with injuries piling up, finding depth pieces at reasonable prices could be what PSG target midway through this season.

So, who could the French giants target? PSG expert Robin Bairner wrote in his latest column for Ensemble PSG that Girona’s Arnau Martinez, who was reportedly on Arsenal’s radar this past summer, as a player that they should consider pursuing for depth at full-back.

“Another option could be Girona’s Arnau Martinez,” Bairner wrote. “The 22-year-old has already captained the La Liga side, whose poor form could be used to prise him away. Left-back is an area that deserves attention, but probably not until the summer of 2026.

In August, it was reported by Foot Mercato that Arsenal submitted a €10 million offer for Arnau Martínez. Manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly looking to strengthen the right-back position following Takehiro Tomiyasu’s departure. The offer was said to include an €8 million upfront fee, with an additional €2 million in performance-related add-ons.
