Derek McInnes

Meanwhile, Hearts, managed by Derek McInnes these days, soar clear at the top of the league having destroyed champions Celtic with something to spare. Not forgetting he put Rangers away as well.

Not that he was ever in the running for the Rangers job.

The reality is McInnes’ humbling of the Eastern lot while Rangers fans are celebrating beating Kilmarnock gives some picture of the sliding doors of Scottish football.

That Rangers elected against moving for McInnes, and now the former Dons chief is taking the SPL apart having used his Kilmarnock spell to properly hone his managerial skills.

Hearts

A mature manager now who has Hearts singing.

This article is nothing to do with Danny Rohl, he’s still an unknown quantity really. But it is highlighting that Rangers shopped from the bargain bin to hire him, the lower EFL, while McInnes was being snooped by Hearts.

McInnes is the closest thing to Walter in the game now – a guy who knows Rangers, breathes us, and is a top manager peaking in the game.

Walter advised him wisely back in 2017 hence he did not take the job back then, after saying yes.

And now he’s ready – but Rangers stumble in the dark under one botched appointment after another.

This isn’t to diss Rohl, as we say, we’re on the fence about him.

Safe hands

But McInnes was a safe pair of hands who is destined for Ibrox one day, and that day could have been now.

Sure, he would also have had to deal with Fester and Lieswell yes. No getting around those two muppets for any Rangers manager.

But boy does McInnes fit the part now, and it’s Hearts benefitting not Rangers.

Just yet another in the never-ending list of Rangers’ blunders that this club has become infamous for. Derek McInnes aims for Rangers.

And don’t us started on Lawrence Shankland…
