Rangers have been urged to be cautious over any move for Sunderland prospect Finn Geragusian, with the 18-year-old linked with a summer switch and Nottingham Forest also linked.

“My first question is why are Sunderland letting him go? For Rangers, they’ve got to be careful because taking an 18-year-old into the Glasgow pressure cooker isn’t always easy either.” He was speaking on the Inside Track Podcast.

“If he is as good as they think he is, and he stays injury free, then that’s exactly the type of talent that can end up becoming a big money spinner for the club. It can be difficult for some people, so I’d want to do some research into the personality and the character of the player.”

Geragusian has scored 13 goals and supplied three assists in 27 outings across Sunderland’s Under-21s and Under-18s this season. He was named among the substitutes for the FA Cup fifth round defeat at Port Vale.

After several youth caps, he received a maiden senior Armenia call-up. He made his debut this week, replacing Grant-Leon Ramos for the final half-hour of a 2-1 friendly loss to Belarus.

Armenia head coach Yegishe Melikyan has said the call came amid issues in attack and to accelerate the youngster’s development. He praised Geragusian’s qualities and profile, while stressing he is not yet ready for the national team.
