Raniele backs team after Corinthians loss, denies focus lapse

Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship on Sunday night, 28th, hosting Flamengo at Neo Química Arena in a match valid for the 25th round of the competition. After a first half filled with offensive errors, including a penalty missed by Yuri Alberto, the Alvinegro opened the scoring early in the second half with their number 9, but ended up suffering a turnaround, losing 2 x 1.

After the match, midfielder Raniele spoke to the press in the mixed zone, where he lamented the negative result after a game where Corinthians "controlled" the opponent, in his words. "I think we had a very good first half. We managed to neutralize Flamengo. I think their first shot was at 40 something minutes, if I'm not mistaken," he pondered.

The number 14 continued, analyzing the second half of the duel: "In the second half it was clear, a team in the semifinals of the Libertadores... they are going to control the game for a few minutes. We are aware of that. They controlled the game for ten, 12 minutes. (But) We came back again to make a game more turned to the duels. And we controlled the game again. If you tell me that their two moves, that they scored a goal at a moment when they were controlling the game, then I will have to disagree."

Raniele also rejected the idea that there was a lack of attention from the defense in Flamengo's turnaround goal. "I think we were attentive, the side was ours. Our defense was not positioned because it was a counterattack. We were pressing high, you can't say that in the side play, where we conceded the goal, there was a lack of attention. It's not possible. If you press high, you are exposed at the back. We can't control that."

He continued, attributing the goal to the linesman's mistake in giving a throw-in to the opponent, at a moment when the defense was not well positioned. "Linesman's mistake that gave them the throw-in and our defense was not positioned because we were pressing high, which is what we did the whole game", he affirmed.

Finally, Raniele said what Corinthians needs to improve to win again in the Brasileirão: "Concentration. In the games that we did poorly and drew or lost, we had to increase the concentration, the pace of the game. (Today) I won't get into the merit of the throw-in, but if we were a little more attentive we could have taken the ball out. It happens, so I think this attention, this concentration, the 90 minutes is crucial for us to get out of this situation."

Corinthians' next match will be against Internacional, on Wednesday, October 1st, at 7:30 pm. The match will be valid for the 26th round of the 2025 Brazilian Championship and will take place at Beira-Rio stadium, in Porto Alegre.
