Fran Garcia may have been one of Real Madrid’s standout players in the recently concluded FIFA Club World Cup,as he managed to impress the new coach in his early days under his command.

The club’s decision to sign Alvaro Carreras, however, provides him with more than enough reason to see his future as insecure, especially given that the former Benfica defender arrives eyeing a starting spot.

With Ferland Mendy also in contention for a starting place, it is clear that either Mendy or Garcia must leave and the latter appears to be edging towards an exit to prioritise his playing time.

Following Modric’s footsteps?

As relayed in a recent report by AS, Garcia’s agent Gines Carvajal has started talks with AC Milan over a potential transfer for his client. His contacts began soon after Real Madrid completed the Carreras deal.

With Garcia’s situation at the club now complicated, talks with the Serie A giants are underway to discuss a potential move and Luka Modric, who recently left Real Madrid for AC Milan, is supporting the notion in Italy.

The relationship between Los Blancos and the Rossoneri is excellent, and with AC Milan looking desperately for a new full-back, a deal may well work out.

Notably, however, it was not the club that came looking for Garcia but the player’s agent who initiated the contacts.

The talks between the two parties are currently informal and still far from being concrete. Modric is internally pushing for his former teammate to join under Massimiliano Allegri.

In the Club World Cup, the Real Madrid left-back made six starts for the club, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process. Further, he averaged 0.8 key passes and over 11 defensive actions per game.
