Real Madrid has assured it has had not had “any direct or indirect contact” with France and Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise amid speculation of a big-money switch.
The La Liga giants’ President, Florentino Perez has reportedly been pushing for a deal and is willing to spend over €200m (£173m) to bring the former Crystal Palace player to Spain, according to Spanish journalist Jose Felix Diaz.
However, a statement by the La Liga giants has assured that there has not yet been any contact with the 26-year-old regarding an exit from Munich after two seaons playing in the Bundesliga.
The statement read: “In light of the information published in various media outlets regarding an alleged interest of our club in Bayern Munich player Michael Olise, Real Madrid wishes to clarify that it has not had any direct or indirect contact with the aforementioned footballer, his representatives, or individuals in his circle.
“Real Madrid also wishes to highlight the excellent institutional relationship it maintains with Bayern Munich, with whom it shares a long history of mutual respect, collaboration, and admiration, and regrets the dissemination of speculations that do not correspond to reality.”
Should Los Blancos submit a transfer offer of that value, it would break their record fee of €115m spent to bring Eden Hazard to the Santiago Bernabeu from Chelsea in 2019 and the all-time highest fee paid by a La Liga club.
The record is currently held by Philippe Coutinho’s switch from Liverpool to Barcelona for €135m, set the previous year.
A move of that magnitude would also outvalue Madrid’s unsuccessful €150m bid for Atlético Madrid forward Julian Álvarez, which saw Perez deliver on one of his promises to Madristas upon his re-election on June 7th.
Olise began his career in Reading’s U18s team, before progressing through the ranks to make 73 first team appearances between 2019 and 2021, scoring seven goals.
He was rewarded with a move to the Premier League once Crystal Palace came knocking and scored 16 goals in 90 matches in the English top flight prior to his move to Germany.
The Frenchman has excelled at the elite level, already reaching 107 games for Bayern and notching an impressive 42 goals, and was involved in 34 Bundesliga goals in two less Bundesliga matches this season.
Olise then hit the ground running in the World Cup against Senegal, assisting Kylian Mbappé with a delightful through ball splitting the African defence in their opening match to put on a show for Real Madrid’s hierarchy.
