According to reports from SPORT, Dani Ceballos has once again created tension inside Real Madrid after refusing to join Olympique de Marseille this summer.

The midfielder had everything in place to make the move, including signed paperwork between the two clubs and even a flight prepared for him to France.

However, at the last moment, the Spaniard decided against the transfer, leaving Madrid’s board extremely frustrated with his actions.

Out of Real Madrid’s plans

It must be noted that Ceballos’ style of play has not convinced manager Xabi Alonso, who feels the midfielder slows down the game too much, giving opposition defenders time to recover.

This has pushed Ceballos further down the pecking order, making his decision to reject Marseille even more baffling for the club.

In fact, officials at the Santiago Bernabeu see his behaviour as unprofessional, especially since he has repeatedly asked for a way out but then blocks moves when opportunities arise.

Betis dream complicated

Ceballos’ real wish is to return to Real Betis. However, that path is far from simple. Betis president Angel Haro was left annoyed when the player chose to extend his contract with Madrid in 2022, despite having reached an understanding to return.

While Betis would welcome him back, they do not consider him a priority and are not prepared to meet Madrid’s €15 million asking price.

The only slim chance of a move lay in whether Betis fail to sign Antony from Manchester United, but that move has not materialised.

Continuity at Real Madrid

For now, he remains stuck at Madrid with little chance of regular minutes under Alonso.

If the situation does not change, the midfielder risks spending another season on the sidelines and potentially missing out on the next World Cup.

Ceballos’ indecision has now left him in a difficult position. He has upset Madrid by rejecting Marseille, disappointed Betis in the past, and finds himself without a clear future.

What was once a promising career now looks uncertain, showing how poor choices can damage a player’s trajectory.
