Real Madrid’s transfer plans will largely depend on the outcome of the presidential elections later this week, for the man who takes office will call the shots.

What is clear, however, is that the defence is in need of clear reinforcement irrespective of the candidate in the president’s chair.

Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries both arrive as defensive recruits for Los Blancos, but they are far from done with the two players. Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol, on that front, has been linked as a potential target.

Player’s interest

As confirmed by Jose Felix Diaz of AS in a recent report, Gvardiol himself wants to play for Real Madrid and Los Blancos are well aware of his desire to dress in white.

Real Madrid believe that it is necessary to strengthen the defensive line and will thus do everything possible to sign the Croatian centre-back. Concurrently, however, they will be cautious not to overdo things.

Everything will boil down to Manchester City’s asking price for the star defender whose stock rose astronomically after the last FIFA World Cup.

If they demand a reasonable sum, Real Madrid will be willing to throw the kitchen sink at signing him. If they stick to an exorbitant amount, however, the deal will not happen.

A pricey affair

Funds have seldom been a bottleneck to Real Madrid’s transfer plans and are not expected to be an issue this summer either.

The club, however, are always prudent with its spending and will also look to establish clear boundaries as they always do.

With two years left on his contract in England, Gvardiol’s situation is not the best for Real Madrid to push for a sudden signing. There will be a fee involved, and a sizeable one at that.

The Cityzens highly value the player, and at a time when they are heading into a complete transformation of their project, Manchester City will hope to hold on to Gvardiol as a long-term pillar.
