Reports over the past few days have painted a picture of Xabi Alonso’s arrival as Real Madrid’s next coach to be a given.
However, with the Copa del Rey and La Liga still on the line, nothing is written in stone in Madrid.
The German tactician is indeed the best-placed profile to replace Carlo Ancelotti if he is sacked. However, SPORT shockingly bring to light that the Italian coach’s dismissal is anything but guaranteed.
As relayed by the outlet in a recent update, Florentino Perez still has doubts over whether Alonso is the right profile to take Real Madrid forward despite the internal consensus on his name.
In fact, he is still unsure if Ancelotti should be sacked and is opting to wait until the end of the season to see what comes of the league title race and the Copa del Rey final before taking his decision.

A second reason why the Real Madrid president is hesitant towards recruiting Alonso is the information of a new ‘token’ that Bayer Leverkusen expect should they let him leave this summer.
Alonso’s contract in Germany runs until 2026 and the Bundesliga side expect between €15 and €20 million if he is to leave for Real Madrid.
Perez, however, is unsure of shelling out that amount for a managerial change this summer, especially with bigger transfers planned.
It thus remains to be seen what comes of Ancelotti’s future for it will depend on the team’s performances in the coming weeks, especially the upcoming El Clasico finale in the Copa del Rey.
As it stands, however, Alonso’s arrival is not certain and reports of the deal being done can be taken with a grain of salt.
