Real Madrid have already sealed the signings of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, but they are not resting on the laurels in their bid to add to Jose Mourinho’s squad for the 2026-27 season. Bernardo Silva is also set to sign once his Manchester City contract expires, and another Premier League-based player could soon be on their way to the Bernabeu.

One of the positions that regularly generated doubts throughout the 2025-26 campaign was left-back. Alvaro Carreras had started well following his move from Benfica last summer, but his form fell way as the season went on, while there will remain uncertainty over whether Ferland Mendy can stay fit after several injury woes over the last few years.

These doubts could lead to Real Madrid seeking the signing of a new left-back, and according to Nicolo Schira (via Sport), Chelsea and Spain star Marc Cucurella is one of the options currently under consideration at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid officials view Cucurella as a market opportunity. He is a strong candidate to leave Chelsea after their disappointing 2025-26 season left them without European football, so now could be the ideal time to prise him away from Stamford Bridge. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also keen on him, although neither would be willing to come close to the €60m asking price.

Should Real Madrid go for Cucurella?

There is certainly scope for Real Madrid to go for a left-back, although it does seem unnecessary. Carreras showed plenty of promise in the early stages of last season, and he is very capable of recapturing that form under Mourinho.

Furthermore, Mendy is another good option if he can stay fit, but even if he cannot, Fran Garcia could be retained. Simply put, there is no need to spend €60m on Cucurella, no matter how good he is.
