A massive night in the Spanish capital is underway as Real Madrid look to advance to the Champions League round of 16 against visiting Benfica.

After a narrow 1-0 win in the first leg last week, Los Blancos returned to fortress Bernabeu this evening, hoping to put together a run that could end in their 16th successful continental campaign.

But it was the visitors who opened the scoring in the 14th minute through Rafa Silva after pouncing from close range to pull the Portuguese side level on aggregate. 

That scoreline lasted less than three minutes, though, when Aurélien Tchouaméni struck to restore the one-goal aggregate lead, hitting his first UCL goal for the club in the process.

With that equaliser, the French international also became the first Real Madrid player to register his first UCL goal during the knockout stage since Éder Militão.

Did the former Monaco man just become a club saviour in the process?
