Manchester City’s Rodri has received a fresh transfer plea from one existing Real Madrid star over a future move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spaniard’s long-term future has been a constant talking point this summer, despite Manchester City making clear their firm stance that the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder is untouchable, with eyes fixated on a potential contract extension for the midfielder.

Rodri’s current Etihad Stadium deal runs until the summer of 2027, with City officials believed to be preparing a mammoth renewal offer that would extend his stay through until 2030 and elevate him to one of the club’s highest earners.

That determination somewhat comes in response to Real Madrid’s persistent interest over recent markets. Earlier this summer, reports claimed Los Blancos had explored a move for Rodri – a notion that was swiftly denied by reporters close to the Santiago Bernabeu.

From the perspective of Manchester City officials and decision makers, they have consistently made it clear that their midfield general is central to Pep Guardiola’s plans both now and in the years to come.

Adding to the intrigue, caution over Rodri’s fitness following a groin setback at the FIFA Club World Cup briefly raised questions over his availability for the start of the new campaign, but he has since made a full return with a start against Brighton in the Premier League and re-joined the Spanish national side for the September international break.

Speaking as part of a wider conversation with Spanish outlet COPE during the ongoing pause for national team commitments, Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal admitted his hope of seeing Manchester City’s Rodri at the Santiago Bernabeu in the shirt of Los Blancos.

“I hope in the future he can be with us at the club,” the veteran full-back said of the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

Carvajal’s words add a personal touch to Madrid’s long-running admiration of the midfielder, but they are unlikely to change the reality at the Etihad Stadium, who believe Rodri has zero chance of leaving in the near future, with the player prioritising success in Manchester for the time being.

Looking ahead, Real Madrid may revisit their pursuit in 2026, when Rodri’s current contract enters its final year and his market value could potentially drop, should a contract renewal not be finalised by that point.

For now, though, Manchester City are likely to be firmly focused on tying him down to a new long-term deal that would silence outside speculation and reaffirm his place as the heartbeat of Pep Guardiola’s project.

If an agreement is struck in the coming months, Manchester City fans can expect Rodri not only to lead their midfield back to full strength following injury, but also to remain the cornerstone of their dynasty well into the next decade.
