Real Madrid are set to target Arsenal and Manchester City stars this summer, as they hope to return to the top.
The Spanish giants have failed to win a trophy in each of the last two seasons – a period of relative turmoil at the club. Consequently a busy transfer window is expected from the 15-time European champions. This could impact a number of Premier League sides.
With Jose Mourinho is set to be named as Real Madrid’s new manager in the coming days, The Mirror report that the coach wants a reunion with his former player and current Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori.
A versatile option at the back, the Italy international played under the Portuguese manager at Roma. The 24-year-old will not be available for anything cheaper than the £42 million the Gunners paid for him two years ago.
Real Madrid are also considering a move for Declan Rice, according to the BBC. Arsenal’s record signing, the midfielder was critical to their success last season and the Englishman is in line to claim the club’s Player of the Year award for a second consecutive campaign. It would take an astronomical fee to lure him to the Bernabeu.
It is not just Arsenal stars who are in Real Madrid’s crosshairs this summer. Los Blancos are also eyeing two of Manchester City’s most-important men.
Currently embroiled in a battle with Florentino Perez for the club’s presidency, candidate Enrique Riquelme has promised two massive signings. He has vowed to bring both Erling Haaland and Rodri to the Bernabeu, if he is successful in his candidacy. His comments would have sparked concern at the Etihad, although Haland’s camp swiftly denied the validity of Riquelme’s claims.
Meanwhile, City have been busy launching their own major move. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is one of the most-sought after players this summer. It is understood that City are leading the race for the England international’s signature.
The Athletic say that City have now had an opening offer for the 23-year-old rejected. It is believed that Forest will hold out for a fee in excess of £100 million.
