Real Sociedad were beaten by Atlético, and these are the pick of the individual verdicts, headlined by Mikel Oyarzabal’s missile from the bench.
According to Diario Vasco, Álex Remiro produced several fine saves yet looked uncertain on crosses. Jon Mikel Aramburu struggled under the press, while Jon Martín had a poor night and was slow for the opener.
Duje Caleta-Car read danger better, denying Sorloth once, though he failed to close down a Griezmann backheel. Sergio Gómez largely contained Giuliano before suffering when Simeone introduced greater mobility.
Carlos Soler’s touch and top-corner finish drew them level after a precise cross from Luka Sucic, who showed class but also surrendered the ball dangerously. Beñat Turrientes and Brais Méndez offered little penetration.
Arsen Zakharyan’s slip preceded the 3-2 and his intensity was questioned. Ander Barrenetxea’s backheel to Sergio Gómez aside, his decisions cost possession in risky areas. Pablo Marín failed to release Óskarsson after a clever run, and Gonçalo Guedes was imprecise.
Yangel Herrera endured a torrid first half, then improved, though his long throw led to the 1-0 and he lost the initial duel, before threading the pass for the 2-2 to the no 10. Oyarzabal, making his first La Liga appearance as a substitute in 24 league matches, stunned Jan Oblak with a thunderous finish and was rated best on the night. Pellegrino Matarazzo made five changes plus Remiro after signalling only a couple, yet could not turn the game, even if his side reacted.
