The draw between Benfica and Casa Pia at Estádio Municipal de Rio Maior on Monday was overshadowed by a heated touchline incident later set out in referee Hélder Carvalho’s report.
According to Glorioso 1904, the flashpoint involved Marco Aurélio Santos, Casa Pia’s football director, and Pedro Machado, an assistant on José Mourinho’s staff, after one of them left the technical area.
Machado tried to take the ball from Santos, which triggered coarse words demanding the ball. Santos replied immediately, challenged his counterpart and told him to sit down. Staff from both benches then became involved in a brief confrontation.
The Disciplinary Council fined both men, imposing 1428 euros on Santos and 2040 euros on Machado.
Santos’s defence argued the account did not reflect reality and that he had reacted to provocation. The Council upheld the penalties, saying no evidence had been produced to undermine the probative weight of the referee’s report and confirming the facts as recorded.
