Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has come out and disagreed with recent comments made by midfielder Cole Palmer.

Chelsea are in a real fight now if they want any chance of finishing in the Champions League qualifying spots. They have slipped 7 points behind 5th place Liverpool as the games run down. They are actually closer to 14th place than they are to the Champions League qualification positions right now, and Palmer basically said that if they don’t get Champions League next season then everything changes.

It’s impossible to know exactly what he means by that, whether it’s an individual thing for his future, or just for the future of the club overall, but Palmer believes things change if we don’t get Champions League football next season.

Rosenior does not agree

In quotes picked up by The Evening Standard, Rosenior said when asked about Palmer’s interview:

“I actually got sent Cole’s interview. I thought it was an outstanding interview by someone who cares about the football club.

“Not everything changes — but what I don’t want to do is sit here and talk about us not qualifying for the Champions League, because we’re still fighting for it.

“The reality is, does everything change? No. The plan, in terms of what this team needs and what we need to be successful, doesn’t. The context around that does. So, money, especially finances, that type of thing.

“We’re all aligned, regardless of whether we’re in the Champions League or not, and what this team needs, long-term, to be successful. So everything doesn’t change; it just makes it a lot easier if we are in the Champions League.”

In other news today…

Cole Palmer was annoyed with Alejandro Garnacho for switching off at a crucial moment and allowing Man Utd to score on Saturday. A video captured his angry reaction.

And also on Garnacho, a journalist has claimed that whoever signed him at Chelsea should be sacked on the spot, because he’s never been good enough.
