Barcelona’s complicated economic situation has made it difficult for the club to contemplate big signings in recent years.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Joan Garcia did indeed arrive last summer, but registering them turned out to be a much larger hassle than Joan Laporta and Co. would have hoped for.

There is optimism that the situation will improve by the time the next summer transfer window arrives, but until then, the club continue to monitor players who are close to the final year of their contract, if not already in the final 12 months.

According to BILD, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo in a recent report, Karim Adeyemi has once again popped up on the Catalans’ radar as an option, and not for the first time.

A highly rated winger

As reported, Barcelona are interested in Adeyemi as a long-term bet for their forward department, and unsurprisingly so given that they were interested in the player as early as 2021 when he was still an RB Salzburg player.

Since then, the player has gone on to play for Borussia Dortmund, with the German giants shelling out as much as €30 million for his arrival and seen some difficult periods including injuries.

Now, however, he is back to his best and Barcelona are alert again.

So far this season, the youngster has scored three goals and provided as many assists in eight games for Dortmund and has looked sharp in attack.

In fact, he has a goal contribution in five of his last six games for the club (G3. A3).

What about his contract?

His current contract in Germany runs until the summer of 2027, and Dortmund are firm that they wish to renew his deal until 2029.

If he does renew, Barcelona’s interest will almost instantly fade away, but if he opts to pressurise the club by not renewing, the Catalans will make an effort to land him.

Dortmund, as it stands, value Adeyemi at €80 million, and it remains to be seen how much of a discount they are willing to offer if he refuses to renew and forces a departure.

After all, the pressure of not losing him on a free transfer will be brutal.
