After missing out on Champions League qualification, Milan are undergoing profound changes both on and off the pitch. According to Calciomercato, Nicolas Jackson could be one of the club’s first signings this summer.
Milan have already agreed to break their transfer record to sign Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the Portuguese striker’s rough time in Paris, the 19-time Serie A champions are prepared to shell out nearly €70 million to secure his services. Whether it’s the right decision remains to be seen.
However, Milan’s hopeless pursuit of a prolific striker may not stop there. With Santiago Gimenez likely to leave the club after the World Cup, there’s room for another attacking acquisition. And the Rossoneri have set their sights on Jackson, who spent last season on loan at Bayern Munich from Chelsea.
Deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, Jackson could make another loan move this summer, with Milan ready to bring him to Serie A.
Jackson flopped in the Premier League, falling short of his €37 million price tag. Bayern had given him a chance to steer his career back on track. However, after netting just eight goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances, he failed to convince the German powerhouse to make his transfer permanent.
Furthermore, Jackson’s wastefulness in front of goal has become notorious. It’s difficult to see him developing into the reliable goalscorer Milan desperately need at this stage of their rebuild. Yet, if they can sign him on loan without an obligation to buy, the deal could represent a low-risk opportunity to add depth and competition in attack.
