Multiple sources in Italy claim that Gianluca Rocchi didn’t meet with Inter directors on April 2, 2025, but other match officials did, leading to Andrea Colombo’s appointment for the Nerazzurri’s Serie A match against Bologna.

Serie A refereeing scandal: Rocchi didn’t meet Inter

More details are emerging regarding the new refereeing scandal involving Rocchi, VAR Supervisor Andrea Gervasoni, and three other VAR officials.

Rocchi is under investigation for participation in sports fraud, but will not appear for interrogation with the Milan Prosecutor tomorrow, April 30, unlike Gervasoni.

Rocchi is suspected of having influenced VAR decisions and appointed referees liked by Inter, which the Nerazzurri President Beppe Marotta has strongly denied.

So far, no evidence has emerged that Rocchi held talks with Inter regarding referee appointments, and no players or club directors from the Nerazzurri or any other Serie A club are under investigation.

Rocchi is alleged to have attended a meeting at San Siro on April 2, 2025, the day of the Coppa Italia semifinal first leg between Milan and Inter.

During that meeting, he reportedly decided to appoint Colombo for a Serie A match between Bologna and Inter on April 20, 2025, and Doveri for the Coppa Italia semifinal second leg between Inter and Milan, thereby making him ineligible to officiate the Final, a match Inter ultimately didn’t even reach.

According to Gazzetta and other Italian media, including ANSA and La Stampa, wiretaps from that meeting appear to suggest that Rocchi didn’t speak to Inter directors but rather to referees or members of the refereeing world.

Rocchi and his lawyer still have not received the full set of documents containing accusations from the Milan Prosecutor, yet the former Referee Designator won’t show up for an interrogation tomorrow.
