Igor Tudor’s tenure at Juventus continued under massive scrutiny as Como managed their first win over the Bianconeri in Serie A in 73 years. With two big games ahead, media speculation has been building regarding the Croatian’s potential successor.

While Igor Tudor will be hoping to recapture the magic of the last time he turned out at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid are a far different beast compared to May 2003. He heads to the Spanish capital as a nasty record lingers with Juventus not registering a win in 40 days. Following that midweek trial against Los Blancos, his side then face Lazio in Rome.

In the worst-case scenario of Tudor’s sacking, several potential replacements have been lined up. Luciano Spalletti arrives as a popular decision for many clubs, and he has already turned down clubs in Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

Another prospect is Roberto Mancini. He looks to be keeping his cards close to his chest. The manager who won the 2021 Euros withdrew from the race for the Nottingham Forest hotseat, raising his asking prices and, in turn, seemingly hoping for a call from Turin.

Raffaele Palladino is also on the list, and he comes as the cheapest and closest to the technical director Francois Modesto, with whom he worked at Monza. The prospect of Thiago Motta’s second term is complicated, while former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic is a possibility on general manager Damien Comolli’s agenda.

As La Gazzetta aptly summarise, in May 2003, Tudor played in Madrid as part of a team. But now, “just over twenty years later, he’ll be playing alone, seeking redemption, full of pride, and on the edge.”
