Inter are right on the verge of making their defensive signing for the summer.

The Nerazzurri have been searching for a young defender for more than a month now.

This followed an unexpected serious injury to wingback Tajon Buchanan. The Canadian suffered a broken leg while with his national side at the Copa America.

With Buchanan out of action for the first few months of this season, Carlos Augusto will need to play on the left flank.

Augusto had spent last season regularly backing up Alessandro Bastoni in the back three.

However, the Brazilian will be tied up at wingback for the foreseeable future.

Therefore, Inter have gone in search of a left-footed defender who can deputize for Bastoni.

There had been the idea of an experienced stopgap solution on a free transfer. The Nerazzurri considered the likes of Ricardo Rodriguez and Mario Hermoso.

Then, Inter had reportedly been on the verge of a deal for defender Juan Cabal before he instead joined Juventus.

Meanwhile the likes of Zenit St. Petersburg’s Robert Renan, Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior, and Genoa’s Johan Vazquez have also been on the Nerazzurri’s radar.

More recently, links have emerged to Nantes defender Nathan Zeze, Dinamo Zagreb defender Mauro Perkovic, and Valencia defender Yarek Gasiorowski.

Tomas Palacios To Undergo Inter Milan Medicals & Sign Contract Tomorrow

In the end, Inter settled on Palacios to be their newest defensive addition.

The dictate from owners Oaktree Capital to focus on young players played an important role in the Nerazzurri’s decision.

Oaktree prefer not to bring in stopgap solutions. They want to build their project at Inter around young players.

And Palacios checks both boxes for Inter and Oaktree: age, and stylistic profile.

Inter have been negotiating with Talleres and Independiente Rivadivia for a couple weeks. The two Argentine clubs had a somewhat convoluted ownership scheme.

But now everything is in place. Palacios is in Milan and ready to complete his move to Inter.

Tomorrow morning, the Argentine will undergo his medicals on the transfer.

And then, there will be the matter of wrapping up the bureaucratic details and receiving a work permit. This will be around lunchtime.

Lastly, in the early afternoon FCIN report that Palacios should sign his contract with Inter.
