The summer of 2026 is shaping up to be another crucial transfer campaign for Liverpool.

While the summer transfer window just gone was about increasing the team’s options in several positions - next year is likely to see a more laser-focussed window from sporting director Richard Hughes.

The biggest issues could well be around Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. Liverpool’s two legendary leaders are out of contract in 2027 - and by next summer they will only have one year left on each of their deals.

Don’t forget Van Dijk is now 34 while Salah will turn that age next summer. The time will soon come to source successors for two of the Reds’ most important players - and those decisions have got to be spot on.

Liverpool hoping for Olise deal

In Salah’s case the name coming into focus is Michael Olise. Liverpool have been linked with the France winger down throughout the years - when he was at Crystal Palace - but Olise ultimately opted for Bayern Munich last summer.

The German record champions got themselves a bargain - signing Olise up to a contract until 2029 for a fee of around £53m. But transfer talk is already gathering steam around the 23-year-old with Bayern seeking to tie him down to a new contract.

Reports suggest however that the left-footed playmaker fancies a return to England - where he played for Reading as well as Palace before his move to the Bundesliga.

It'll take £100m or more to land Olise

And of course Liverpool is the prime destination for peak talents these days - breaking the British transfer record TWICE in the space of one summer for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. Olise could now follow suit - and his price tag has now been revealed.

It’s going to take £100m at LEAST to prise Olise out of the Allianz Arena according to a new report in the Football Insider.

“Bayern will demand nothing short of £100million to sell Olise with the Frenchman under contract to 2029, and that “huge” price tag is only likely to increase in the future,” the report reads.

Will Salah leave?

Next summer is going to represent a crossroads in the Liverpool career of Salah. The £400k per week forward may face increased competition for his starting place as his contract winds down.

Richard Hughes may even listen to offers for the Egyptian King - with Saudi Arabia always an attractive destination for Salah.

Let’s see what happens; Salah could end up sharing duties with his own successor for a season before departing. But first - let’s do this deal for Olise - one of the finest forwards in Europe right now.
