Juan Román Riquelme says Ángel Romero is on course to become Boca Juniors’ first signing of the summer window, with hopes he could join Claudio Úbeda’s side as early as Monday.
“Tomorrow, the day after or Monday, hopefully we can have him with us,” said Riquelme, speaking to AZZ.
“The club’s lawyers and Ángel’s lawyers are exchanging papers, and hopefully tomorrow or the day after we can tell Boca fans he will be with us. Everything indicates it is going to happen,” he added.
The 33-year-old Paraguay forward is a free agent after leaving Corinthians in Brazil. He is due to sign a one-year deal with an option to extend by a further year.
“We have not been able to win, we have always been right at the door. We need to take that step, and this year we must demand the maximum because they have to give us many joys,” he said.
“They know very well they need to win, to see Boca fans happy. They like going to Rosario and Santiago with people waiting at the hotel, and playing at La Bombonera when it is always full. You play for them,” he said.
