Tottenham are hoping to appoint former Brighton and Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi before their visit to Sunderland on 12th April, having moved to bring him in immediately.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, De Zerbi is now open to evaluating a five-year contract from Spurs, with talks to follow and the next few hours described as decisive.

Igor Tudor left on Sunday after a six-week interim spell without a competitive win, and Spurs sit one point above the relegation zone. Assistant Bruno Saltor is leading training while many players are on international duty. The club want a head coach in place when the squad returns later this week to allow a full week of preparation.

De Zerbi is understood to be the primary choice, though he had initially preferred to take over only after the current campaign. He is giving immediate appointment serious consideration, while Sean Dyche has been mentioned as a possible alternative if he declines.

Injuries have hit form, with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario undergoing hernia surgery during the break and hoping to be ready for Sunderland. If not, Antonín Kinský would return for his first appearance since being substituted in the first half of the Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid. Forward Mathys Tel is a minor doubt after a knock against Nottingham Forest.

Spurs hope Mohammed Kudus and Rodrigo Bentancur can rejoin from thigh injuries, though starts may be unlikely, and their availability would at least bolster depth. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski could feature before the end of the campaign but are unlikely to face Sunderland. Ben Davies might also return from an ankle issue, with winger Wilson Odobert out and Yves Bissouma a doubt.
