Bayer Leverkusen sporting managing director Simon Rolfes says the club are not considering a coaching change, backing Kasper Hjulmand despite a five-match winless run in all competitions.
Kicker reports that a summer departure for the Dane is ‘inevitable’, while Sky Germany suggests Leverkusen are monitoring Brighton & Hove Albion coach Fabian Hürzeler.
“A coaching change is not a scenario we are considering. For us, it is clear: we want to be successful in this setup. We still have every chance of achieving our seasonal objective,” Rolfes told Bild.
The objective is Champions League qualification. Leverkusen sit sixth after three straight league draws, most recently a 3-3 draw against Heidenheim, and are four points behind RB Leipzig in fourth.
“Our problem is: we delivered a really good performance against Bayern and didn’t win, we played a good first half against Heidenheim and didn’t close it out. That is frustrating. Now Heidenheim must be our wake-up call, so that when the pressure is on, we manage to see out games from the first to the last minute.”
Hjulmand’s contract runs until 2027.
