Ahead of the January transfer window, Roma has set its sights on Rafik Belghali, Verona’s 2002-born right-back.
After a stellar first half of the season, the young Algerian with Belgian citizenship has seen his market value rise, with some sources now estimating his value at around €15 million, ten times his initial estimate.
As Alfredo Pedullà reports, in addition to the Giallorossi, Inter and Juventus have also expressed interest in the defender, drawn by his defensive solidity and ability to push forward down the right flank.
Juventus in particular seems to have a strong interest in him, while Inter had shown interest even before Denzel Dumfries’ injury.
Roma, despite having Wesley as their starting right-back, highly values Belghali’s talent. However, the Brazilian has often played on the left due to Angelino’s injury and Tsimikas’ poor performance, a factor that would favor the Algerian’s possible arrival.
Furthermore, in recent months, the Giallorossi have already had several contacts with Verona regarding Giovane and Baldanzi, who was very close to a move to the Veneto club this summer.
Despite interest from Italy’s top clubs, Verona hopes to keep Belghali at least until June to face the Serie A relegation battle, but much will depend on the offers that arrive in the January transfer window. Furthermore, the player will be playing in the Africa Cup of Nations with his native Algeria, and his market value could still increase.
