Alessio Romagnoli is a doubt for Lazio’s trip to Juventus on Sunday, with the centre-back working separately from the squad due to a physical issue, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian saluted travelling supporters in Lecce in what was meant to be his last outing before a move to Al-Sadd. Lazio removed him from the market the next morning, sparking frantic talks that collapsed when he refused to waive three months’ salary, with the Qatari club reportedly promising to return in the summer.

There had already been concern over a muscle strain suffered in the defeat to Como, though he pushed to be available for what had been earmarked as his farewell.

It remains unclear whether he will recover to rejoin Mario Gila at the back. Oliver Provstgaard is on alert after covering against Genoa last Friday and might get the nod at the Allianz Stadium.

Romagnoli’s fitness may not be the biggest issue. He will regain his fitness in the coming days, but his relationship with Claudio Lotito is beyond repair after the unfiltered comments made by his agent, Enzo Raiola, in the wake of the botched Al-Sadd move. Sporting director Angelo Fabiani is trying to mediate, yet a temporary truce appears the best outcome, with a summer divorce virtually inescapable.
