Romain Saiss was given a warm ovation on his return to Molineux before Wolves’ final home Premier League match, with relegation confirmed last month and an away trip to Burnley still to come.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the defender, who arrived in 2016 and became a key figure under Nuno as Wolves won the Championship, made more than 100 Premier League appearances before leaving for Besiktas in 2022.

Supporters had shared photos of Saiss near the club’s Compton training base over the weekend. Minutes before kick-off against Fulham, he was led around the pitch and acknowledged all four stands to loud applause.

The reason for his visit was not clear, whether simply to greet the fans who had long sung his name or for other purposes.

Saiss departed in 2022 after reportedly turning down a new contract. It was claimed he was unhappy with the terms and that former chairman Jeff Shi did not shift his position, with the exit announced a week after the season.

Since then he has played in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
