Romain Saiss was given a warm ovation on his return to Molineux before Wolves’ final Premier League home game against Fulham, with relegation already confirmed after eight seasons in the top flight.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the former captain was led out minutes before kick-off and paraded around the pitch, acknowledging all four sides as supporters rose to salute him. The purpose of his visit was not clear.
Fans had shared images of Saiss near the club’s Compton training base over the weekend. Wolves still have an away trip to Burnley before dropping to the Championship.
Signed in 2016, Saiss became a cornerstone under Nuno as Wolves won the Championship. He went on to make more than 100 Premier League appearances before leaving in 2022 to join Besiktas, later playing in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
He departed after reportedly turning down a new contract offer. It was claimed at the time that he was unhappy with the terms, and that former chairman Jeff Shi did not shift his stance, with his exit confirmed a week after the season ended.
In a farewell message then, Saiss said saying goodbye was the moment he had feared most, called it an honour to wear the colours, thanked team-mates he considered family and vowed to remain a wolf forever.
