Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior says he will consider disciplinary records when making his team selections after his side received a ninth red card of the season against Arsenal.
Pedro Neto’s sending off means Chelsea have now had seven league red cards this season, and came at a crucial time in the game when Rosenior’s side were searching for an equaliser.
Speaking about the team’s discipline issues, Rosenior said: “It needs to improve promptly.
“You have to hold your hands up to the original mistake.
“Pedro [Neto] has apologised to the group. We will miss him for the next game. I need to see an improvement in the behaviour now.
“It’s not just him though, we’ve had bookings for needless dissent and fouls. If we’re to improve and get to where we want to be, we have to make a conscious step now to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“The first thing is picking the players who are actually showing that improvement. I cannot afford to go through a season picking up a red card every one or two games, it just isn’t possible.
“So I need to see improvement and I need to adjust my team selection based on those players that are showing those capabilities.”
Enzo Fernandez, the team’s vice-captain, has received seven yellow cards this season and Rosenior was asked about his leadership, but said he has no issues with the Argentinian: “He is a top leader. It’s not even entered my mind.
“There’s something that needs to improve there. We’re a young team, it’s not an excuse but we are one of the youngest in the league and in Europe.”
