Taty Castellanos' future at West Ham is up in the air after their relegation

West Ham are building a team that they hope can win promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Hammers finished 18th in the top flight, suffering a return to the Championship for the first time since 2012.

The London outfit were two points adrift of rivals Tottenham Hotspur despite a final day victory over Leeds United at home.

Nuno Espírito Santo will now be looking to guide his side to a top two finish in the table, which he previously achieved in 2018 when his Wolves team won the second division title.

However, the futures of a number of key players will need to be determined in the coming weeks as well.

The likes of Mateus Fernandes, Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville have all been linked with a move away from West Ham in recent weeks.

It has been reported by MilanNews24 that Ruben Amorim is keen on a deal to bring Taty Castellanos to San Siro this summer.

The Portuguese coach has been appointed as the new manager of the Italian giants, and is now looking to make his mark on the first team squad.

Castellanos joined the Hammers in January in a deal worth a reported €30 million (£25.8 million) from Lazio last January in a bid to bolster their survival chances, scoring six goals in his first few months in east London.

However, relegation has led to uncertainty surrounding his future, and now Milan are set to step up their interest.

It’s believed that Amorim sees the 27-year-old as the ideal candidate to bolster his forward line next season.

Milan have already reportedly agreed a club record fee to sign Goncalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain, but further additions in attack could follow.

Castellanos has a contract with West Ham until June 2030, with the London outfit also holding the option for a further 12 months.

How West Ham fans feel about Taty Castellanos’ future

West Ham fans were impressed by the determination shown by Castellanos during his spell with the team, and wouldn’t begrudge him a move this summer.

However, they believe that it should take somewhere between £40 and 50 million to agree to a deal.

Meanwhile, many expect that he will depart following the Hammers’ relegation.

But some are disappointed that he won’t be staying to work alongside Espirito Santo next season.

Even with relegation to the Championship, West Ham have a strong negotiating position for Castellanos due to his contract situation.

He just joined the club six months ago, and would’ve known the risk of relegation at that point, so he made that commitment and the Hammers can keep him to that unless they receive a major offer.

Working with Amorim and Milan is obviously appealing given their status as one of the biggest clubs in Italy, and they can offer Europa League football next season as well.

But it remains to be seen whether the Serie A club would be willing to splash the cash on another forward after agreeing such an expensive move for Ramos.
