Daniel Kretinsky has agreed to become the new majority shareholder at West Ham

West Ham are undergoing a lot of changes behind the scenes following their relegation from the Premier League.

Daniel Kretinsky has agreed to become the new majority shareholder following a deal with the family of David Gold.

The Czech businessman is set to increase his stake in the London outfit from 27 percent to 43 percent.

And he has already moved to bring in a new recruitment chief, with Nils Koppen set to arrive from Copenhagen.

West Ham fans will be hoping the pair can work together alongside Nuno Espírito Santo to lead the club back to promotion from the Championship next season.

But despite Kretinsky’s deal to become the new majority shareholder at West Ham, speculation still surrounds the ownership situation at the club.

Former minority shareholder at Newcastle United, Amanda Staveley, has been linked with a possible investment proposal in the Championship side.

Staveley helped the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund complete their takeover of the Magpies, but she sold her remaining six percent stake in the club in July 2024.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has claimed that Staveley could be the right fit to partner Kretinsky at West Ham.

He believes that she will have connections that will help secure the funds for any kind of a takeover deal, suggesting there should be no concerns over her financial backing.

"Amanda and [her husband] Mehrdad are decent people," said Wyness, via Football Insider.

"I've met Amanda and look, no problem with her at all.

"They certainly showed that they had the club's best interests at heart at Newcastle.

"They got personally involved, and I think they really enjoyed it.

"So they want another football adventure.

"It's not Amanda's own money as such.

"She tends to put together syndicates very well, mainly from her Middle East connections.

"She's been around both Liverpool and Spurs, but West Ham actually might be a good fit."

Wyness has claimed that Kretinsky holds the future of West Ham in his hands right now, and that it’s unlikely he’ll want to walk away from the club completely, but that the pair could work together well in partnership.

"The one with all the cards right now is Mr Kretinsky," he added.

"He has the largest shareholding, and it would be up to him if he wanted to do anything.

"He could sell, if the other shareholders agree as well, and hand the whole thing to Amanda and Mehrdad, or else he goes into a partnership with them, which may work as well.

"I think they would be quite decent partners, and that could work for him.

"So I can see both those options still being available.

"I tend to think Kretinsky's got longer-term plans himself on how he might run it, but certainly they'd be very credible partners if they were to step up and pay for those extra shares."

How West Ham fans feel about Amanda Staveley’s potential investment

West Ham fans are sceptical that Kretinsky would want to sell up his stake in the club after agreeing to become the majority owner, indicating a partnership will have to be the path forward.

However, some fans are positive about the possibility of Staveley becoming a part of the ownership structure following her work with Newcastle.

But not everyone is on board with her becoming a part of the Hammers as speculation grows regarding her interest in the London outfit.

West Ham will begin their Championship season on 16 August with a trip to face Burnley.

Daniel Kretinsky could seek Amanda Staveley partnership

It’s unlikely that Kretinsky will invest in West Ham by purchasing a greater share of the club just to sell it all and walk away, unless he received an offer he just couldn’t refuse.

The Hammers are an attractive proposition now for possible investors, as they’re a club with a lot of potential but are experiencing a low point with relegation from the Premier League.

Kretinsky is in a position where successfully guiding the club back to the top flight, and potentially back to European football, could massively increase its value.

So Staveley’s best chance of getting involved with the Irons is surely to become a partner or minority investor at this stage, as Kretinsky seems to be exerting his control on the day-to-day running at the London Stadium already.
