Manchester United have made their stance on Ruben Amorim’s future clear after last weekend’s defeat against Brentford.

According to Manchester Evening News (MEN), the Red Devils hierarchy has decided to keep their faith in the beleaguered Portuguese head coach despite recent results.

Amorim’s side sit 14th in the Premier League table after taking just seven points from their opening six games, leaving United fans flustered.

United have already lost three games this season, the latest coming in a 3-1 defeat against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday.

Amorim’s side went into that game hoping to record back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since the Portuguese manager joined the club.

They had previously edged another London rival, Chelsea, winning 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

However, they fell short against Brentford with a performance that hardly got the fans off their seats.

There are disgruntled fans calling for Amorim to be sacked, and reports have circulated that the club is already exploring potential alternatives.

Former Barcelona head coach Xavi is among those reportedly under consideration if Amorim is relieved of his duties. However, the United board have decided to throw their weight behind Amorim.

MEN reports that no managerial change is being considered at this stage.

The support from Old Trafford decision-makers echoes the stance taken last month, when the club was forced to clarify that Amorim would not be sacked after a shock EFL Cup exit to Grimsby Town.

The narrow win against Chelsea lifted the mood in the dressing room, but United have struggled for consistency throughout Amorim’s tenure.

So far, he has picked up just 34 points from a possible 99 in the Premier League.

The decision of the board to stay their hand on Amorim’s dismissal doesn’t necessarily mean he’s out of the woods. In fact, he’s running out of time to prove he’s the man for the job.

His predecessor Erik ten Hag survived the October international break but was sent packing by INEOS shortly after. There’s a decent chance they could repeat that trick with Amorim if results don’t improve.

United host newly promoted Sunderland in their next outing, and they’d be keen to get back to winning ways.
