According to Glorioso 1904, Rui Costa is studying a market move to bring a high-profile addition to Benfica’s volleyball team for the second half of the season.
The club’s modalities department is considering giving head coach Marcel Matz one more option, improving conditions for the run-in and play-offs as Benfica seek a route back to national titles.
No specific target has been identified, and a signing from outside Portugal remains possible, with the overarching goal of recovering the supremacy lost to Sporting last season.
At the start of this campaign, the Luz club made several notable additions, including Kelvi Geovani and Francisco Pombeiro, yet there is a feeling the squad still needs fine-tuning.
Performances have been inconsistent. Matz’s side sit second in the National Championship behind Sporting, are in the Portuguese Cup quarter-finals and hold an advantage in the CEV Challenge Cup round of 16 after an epic 3-2 win over Altekma of Türkiye.
