Even before the World Cup in North America, FC Bayern was actively courting Ismael Saibari. An agreement was reached with the player early on, and after some negotiations, with PSV Eindhoven as well. 

The Moroccan’s transfer was finalized just a few days ago. Saibari signed a long-term contract in Munich and is expected to breathe new life into the offense.

The 25-year-old underwent his physical in the U.S., where the video for social media confirming the deal was also filmed. And for good reason: he is currently still with the Moroccan national team at the World Cup in North America.

Saibari was substituted due to injury

As part of the tournament, Morocco faced one of the co-hosts—Canada—in the Round of 16 on Saturday evening. Saibari, who scored three goals in the group stage and converted the decisive penalty kick for Morocco against the Netherlands in the round of 32, was naturally in the starting lineup as one of his national team’s best players.

But his time on the field was short-lived. After just over 20 minutes of play, Saibari had to be substituted due to injury. It appears to be a thigh muscle injury, as the new Bayern Munich signing was holding his thigh before being substituted.

This is a shock not only for Morocco, but Bayern Munich will also be watching closely. Depending on the severity of the injury, it could result in an absence that affects the record champions’ preseason preparations.

Due to the short timeframe, no exact diagnosis is available yet. It may have been a precautionary measure, but theoretically, it could range from a strain to a torn muscle bundle.
